Hunting Together (for Smokestar and Heatherface)

Smokestar padded out of the clearing waiting for Heatherface to follow. They walked together down to the river. The sun blazed down on them. It was almost at its setting point. Suddenly Smokestar stopped they were almost there. "This is confusing... There are so many things to take care of. We need a deputy, more cats, there's Leafpelt acting all strange, and... and us. I need help."

Heatherface gazed at him with her beautiful pink eyes. She brushed her pelt against his and licked him on his cheek. Seeing how troubled he was hurt her. "You'll find the right cat to become a deputy soon, kits will come, Leafpelt will find the right cat for herself soon and ... I love you Smokestar... But you're clan leader, I'm a warrior. I feel that it's wrong to love you in a time like this... And remember, I'll always be beside you when you need me." Heatherface mewed in a kind tone. The look she gave him was all she needed to tell Smokestar how she felt about him.

Smokestar purred gently. He was greatly pleased at her reaction. "It is fine. Together our clan could be stronger. I will always need you." He sat down and gave her cheek a quick lick. "In times like this it will be impossible for us not to be together. I... I love you to." He suddenly remembered the nasty look on Leafpelt's face. She used to be so kind and sweet. "When we left Leafpelt was cooking up a nasty plan for you. Better be careful."He licked her cheek again. No matter what time it was, good or bad, he never wanted to leave her.."We better get hunting."

I'll be careful, I won't let anyone hurt me until we are together. But... Should we have kits?" Heatherface asked softly. She stood up and looked at Smokestar, waiting for his reply. She walked over to the river and started to fish.

"Kits... Kits!" he thought with joy. For a second he forgot about everything, except the fact that she really loved him. He saw her walk down the rest of the way to the river. He smiled to himself and followed. "I would love to, but it's really up to you." He sat down and began to fish. In just a few seconds a big silver fish lay flopping at his side. With one swift blow it was dead. "Hungry?" he said nudging it towards Heatherface.

Heatherface smiled, Smokestar was just so sweet! "Yes, I do want kits . I want to have kits with you Smokestar... I know you will be a great father." Heatherface mewed. She saw Smokestar catch a fish and asked if she wanted it. Heatherface nodded and smiled. She wanted to be with Smokestar forever. After she ate the fish with smokestar, she went under the shelter of a tree and curled up. She was exhausted and wanted to sleep here with Smokestar. She tried to keep her eyes open but couldn't. Soon enough, she fell asleep.

Smokestar padded after her to the tree. He started gently licking her pelt. He could tell that she was very tired. When her breathe became slow and even, he curled up beside her. He slowly drifted into sleep.

Smokestar padded down a dark alley. The terrible stench of crow-food hung in the air. It was a deathly quiet. Suddenly a yowl broke out behind him. He whirled around, but there was no one. "Help!!" some cat screeched. There was still no one in sight. Suddenly the sound of a terrible battle broke out around him. He could hear the helpless cats cries as they were slaughtered, the yowls of triumph of the cats that had set there terrible fate. A stone flew out of the wall. A hissing cat stumbled out. He held the terrible scent of blood and crow-food. "Blood will rule..." she screeched as she sank to the ground. No movement came from her lifeless body. Blood started poring threw the hole. The end of the alley closed, leaving Smokestar trapped. The sticky liquid pored around him. The voice of his old leader boomed through the small enclosed space. "Four will become one or blood will rule. Do what is right, even if it is wrong, to survive. Put either your clan before your heart, or your heart before your clan. Either way what is right is wrong, and what is wrong is wrong."

"Heatherface wake up!"

Heatherface woke up with a jolt. She looked at Smokestar and started licking herself. "What is it Smokestar? You look tense. We should get back to camp"Heatherface mewed. She walked hurriedly towards the direction of camp with Smokestar by her side.

"It... I... It was terrible!" Smokestar was breathing heavily. It was like he actually had drowned in the horrid sea of blood. The crow-food stench seemed to hold in his nose. He brushed his paw over it, trying to rid the sent away while running. He tripped, stumbled to his feet and ran as fast as he could. For a moment he forgot about Heatherface, and the wonderful time he was having until... That dream. "I have to find Moonpool!" he yelled back to Heatherface. He hoped she would understand. he started to scid across the ground when the small section of thin bramble thicket that bordered the camp appeared. He shook his head and ran forward, full blast. He crashed through and scided to an uneasy stop.

(should I move the rest of this to the camp?)

Heatherface looked at Smokestar in surprise.He must have had a really bad dream from starclan... Heatherface thought. She raced after Smokestar in silence.

((Sorry for the wait and the shortness! We should continue this in the med. cat den))
